Concept:

We bring simple luxurious accommodation to hand-picked locations with jaw-dropping views. We want you to be able to fully immerse yourself in nature; improving your wellbeing in comfort. Some of our accommodation moves around different locations every 28 days and are designed for all-year occupancy. We help with farm diversification and supplement income for landowners. The accommodation is totally off-grid, leaving no footprint; a retreat from the pressures and stress of everyday life. We are passionate about attention to detail and offer 24hr support for all our accommodation.

It all started when…

We picked up a book called “Rock the Shack” - Gestalten - The architecture of cabins, cocoons and hideouts. It opened our eyes to the possibility of combining the uniqueness of geographical locations with unique accommodation. From there we followed the Tiny House Movement and saw how people in the US converted American school buses and lived in them full time. We watched a surge in remote off-grid living, people doing it for different reasons, some wanting to live mortgage-free, some wanting to travel, some wanting to escape a world of consumerism, but what all of them had in common was the draw to living a simpler life closer to nature. We realised that we live in one the most spectacular landscapes in the country, the Lake District. We wanted to create something completely different that was luxurious in its simplicity, not lavished with technology but with quality materials, fabrics and utensils and to be able to be in locations that are spectacular with jaw-dropping views.

We decided our first project was a 1985 school bus from America. We had been following how they were converted for a long time and it felt like the obvious choice. Once converted, we decided to live in the bus for a few weeks to see what worked and what didn’t. This turned into 9 months as we fell in love with the life! We were on a remote piece of land, we grew vegetables, chopped wood and walked the dog through fields. We both had busy lives but when we were back at the bus, life slowed down and stress levels dropped. There is something about the simple things: lighting a wood burning oven to cook your food, using the sun for power, the only noise around you being nature. The bus was completed and we moved back into our house that we had been renting out. While converting the bus we already had thoughts about our next project. Currently we have a 1956 Airstream that we are converting into accommodation that can also be hired for use elsewhere, a 1986 Classic Yacht which will be in a permanent location as accommodation but also available for charter.

In 2023 we have partnered up and formed a company called “off the beaten track” building cabins and small workspaces as well as some consultancy work.
